Sarah Setchell, Governor
I am privileged to be appointed as Public Governor for the Trust as a representative from the University of Derby.
I have worked in higher education for many years and have also worked in local government and the private sector, in HR and other roles. Like everybody I have my own relationships with, and experiences of the NHS - and I hope to bring a patient perspective, amongst others. Most importantly in this role, I hope to bring the perspective of the future workforce of the NHS – our students at the university, as well as our staff who work with colleagues in the Trust on the provision of education and research.
Before being a governor, I am already connected with the Trust because of our common challenges and goals around workforce and culture - so we have shared experience and good practice.
I am people-focused, and curious. I believe the right culture, values and behaviours are critical drivers for success – how we do things is as important as what we do. I have been very involved in driving diversity and inclusion in my work, and I see huge opportunity for our patients, workforce and wider society if the NHS takes a leading role in driving a sense of belonging in our society.
I acknowledge the challenges and opportunities for the NHS – a much loved but challenged institution, and I hope to play my part in moving things forward in a positive, and more people/patient-centred way.
