Sheena Appleby Governor

I have a strong background in senior nursing and midwifery roles, particularly in clinical leadership and management at both local and national levels.

Patients and families have always been central to my work in the NHS over many years. I have a track record of scrutinising services, engagement with a wide range of staff disciplines, leading and supporting teams whilst always challenging the status quo.

My family, friends and I have experienced UHDB services across many aspects of care. While most of the care has been excellent, there are always areas of improvement and modernisation to help drive safety, public confidence, and quality improvement.

In my time as governor, I have witnessed some excellent work by both frontline and 'behind the scenes' staff that contribute to enhanced patient experience when accessing UHDB services. The staff strive to continually improve care while faced with challenges in maintaining patient safety and public confidence. 

As a governor I will support staff to deliver a positive experience for both patients and their families and ensure their views are represented.
