'Go-to person for ESR' Jeanette surprised with award for helping so many of our colleagues
A UHDB colleague with “the patience of a saint” has been praised for helping an “important but largely unrecognisable” system that all our staff rely on to keep running smoothly.
Jeanette Harper has made an invaluable difference as the Trust’s ESR Project Support Officer for nearly 14 years – helping many of our colleagues to get out of “an ESR hole” along the way.
The Electronic Staff Record, or ESR, is an extremely useful tool for all NHS staff – helping them to view their payslips online, access pension benefits and view other important details – but as with all electronic systems, can often be hard to navigate for some!
Jeanette is always there to offer much-needed guidance to people experiencing problems when accessing ESR, with her importance to our teams summed up by her colleagues selecting her as the latest winner of the Trust’s Excellent Employee Award.
The nomination read: “Jeanette has been the go-to person for ESR for many years – an important but largely unrecognised role. She keeps going with a positive and helpful approach and is an absolute delight to deal with when you get into an ESR hole. Nothing is too much trouble for her, and she has the patience of a saint, which I suspect is a necessity of the role!”
Jeanette, who is currently working from home, admitted that she was “dead shocked” to receive her Making a Difference Award, which was presented virtually over Microsoft Teams by Amanda Rawlings, UHDB’s Chief People Officer.
“Sometimes ESR can be really frustrating and I know I can moan a lot – just ask my managers!”, said Jeanette. “But I do always try to do my best and just hope that it makes a difference to someone, so I’m just glad that someone else thinks that’s what I’m doing!
Presenting Jeanette with her award, Amanda said: “I’m delighted that I’ve been given the opportunity to thank you for all you’re doing by presenting you with this award.
"It’s been lovely to read some of the things people have said about you – that you smile all of the time, you’re such a positive person, how delightful you are to deal with, and how grateful people are for what you do. How lovely that we’re now able to make all of this official by giving you a Making a Difference Award!”
