Dedicated volunteers celebrate nearly 450 years of loyal service
UHDB has recognised the outstanding contributions of some of the volunteers that help out at our hospitals in Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth.
More than 200 volunteers currently work across Queen’s Hospital Burton, Samuel Johnson Community Hospital and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital, offering vital support to patients and staff alike.
With that in mind, the Trust was delighted to be able to present 46 of our volunteers with awards to celebrate them completing 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service at our Volunteers Long Service Awards this week.
Those that received Long Service Awards have clocked up a combined 445 years of volunteering at the Trust, with Christine Luxford celebrating 30 years at Samuel Johnson Community Hospital.
Christine worked at the Victoria Hospital, in Lichfield, for 12 years before deciding to continue helping patients through her work with the Friends of Samuel Johnson committee.
Of the other 45 volunteers honoured, two were marking 25 years of service, three 20 years, six 15 years, nine 10 years and 24 five years.
The Volunteers Long Service Awards took place on Wednesday 22 May, at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, with Cathy Winfield, Executive Chief Nurse, and Sir Stephen Moss, UHDB Non-Executive Director, presenting staff with their awards.
Sir Stephen said: “We’re so grateful to all of our volunteers who give up their time to help us provide the best possible patient experience; it is wonderful to have the opportunity to recognise their dedication and hard work with these long service awards. The contribution they make for our patients, their families and our staff in each of our five hospitals is invaluable, and I would like to thank each and every one of them for the support and service they provide.”
