CEO Stephen Posey joins colleagues to raise Pride flag to mark beginning of Pride Month
Colleagues came together to raise the Pride Progress flag at Royal Derby Hospital today to mark the start of Pride Month; a global celebration and commemoration of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Chief Executive, Stephen Posey, was joined by members of the Trust's Pride Network and other colleagues to raise the flag as a symbol of solidarity to colleagues, patients and visitors who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Pride Month is celebrated in June each year and is a chance to recognise how far rights for the LGBTQIA+ community have come since the Stonewall Riots, which took place in June 1969.
Beth Plummer, Lead of UHDB's Pride Network, spoke of the importance of marking Pride Month across the organisation:
"Pride Month is always a significant date in the calendar for the LGBTQIA+ community around the world, so it is great to see the Trust commemorating this occasion.
"By flying the Pride Progress flag, it shows the communities we serve across Derbyshire and Staffordshire that we are an inclusive organisation and are allies that will do all we can to ensure everyone feels welcomed in our hospitals."
The Pride Network was established in 2020 and continues to grow and develop, having a vital input into how the Trust continues to provide inclusive services going forward.
Beth continued: "The Network continues to go from strength to strength, and we are excited to continue this work, alongside our other amazing network colleagues, to continue to promote positive cultural change to ensure everyone is treated equally and with the dignity and respect they deserve."
After raising the flag with our Network Leads, Chief Executive, Stephen Posey, said: "It was an honour to raise the Pride flag to mark the beginning of Pride Month here at UHDB. It is incredibly important that we mark these occasions and reflect on how we, as an organisation, can continue on our journey to being a fully inclusive environment for our patients, visitors and colleagues.
"Our Staff Networks, including our Pride Network, play a vital role in helping us to achieve this and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future."
