Long-serving UHDB volunteers celebrate decades of service at special ceremony
Some of our volunteer colleagues based at Queen's Hospital Burton, Samuel Johnson Community Hospital and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital were recently honoured at a special ceremony to celebrate their ongoing dedication to UHDB.
On Tuesday 18 July, the volunteers, who work across the three Trust sites - including at League of Friends - came together for a 'thank you lunch' at the Education Centre at Queen's Hospital Burton in which certificates and awards were presented to those who have dedicated anywhere between 5, up to an incredible 45 years of voluntary service.
Applauding the colleagues for their outstanding commitment - and their overall contribution to the experience of those who visit the UHDB sites - were Jackie Marriott, General Manager of Facilities Management, Andrew Selby, Director of Estates and Facilities, and Jill Matthews, Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity Chief Officer. These three senior colleagues presented the awards and certificates to colleagues on this special, celebratory day.
Volunteers across UHDB, and the NHS as a whole, help our hospital sites with patient care, operational support, and so much more - with many visiting our hospital sites coming into contact with a volunteer colleague in some shape or form.
Volunteering empowers individuals and communities - providing an outlet to help those in need, contribute to society, and improve one's own wellbeing. Our volunteers at UHDB come from a range of different age groups, backgrounds, and disciplines - and work in a variety of departments across the organisation, but all share the same common goal: to support us in delivering exceptional care of patients.
In June, we celebrated Volunteers Week 2023 - speaking to some of our volunteers to hear their response to 'Why I Volunteer'. You can read the article and more about their devotion to our patients and communities here >
