Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine enables the function of organs within the body to be measured as well as analysing their anatomy.

It can often identify abnormalities very early in the progression of a disease. Nuclear medicine uses medicines (pharmaceuticals) that have been labelled with a very small amount of a radioactive material (radioisotope). The radiation exposure is very low and poses little risk.

All appointment letters include an information leaflet that describes the test or treatment in detail. If you receive a letter from nuclear medicine, please read through the letter and information leaflet carefully.
