Practice placement information for AHP student inductions

The PLSU team have provided you with your Educator’s contact details. Please get in touch with them prior to starting your placement. They will be able to answer questions specific to the clinical placement area and inform you of any preparation or reading you should complete.

It may be useful to give your Educator an idea of your experience to date and any information regarding previous learning objectives.

If you have a support plan in place we strongly advise you share this with your Educator and PLSU as soon as possible so we can make reasonable adjustments or arrange additional support for you. It can be difficult to make these adjustments once your placement has started. Please contact the Practice Learning Facilitators in PLSU if you would like any further advice on this.

If you have any gaps in your vaccination history (e.g. HepB, TB) please let PLSU and your Educator know.

If appropriate please organise a pre-placement visit with your Educator as soon as possible.

Induction process

You will receive a local induction to your placement area from your Educator or a member of their team.

You will be booked on to a UHDB Trust induction by the PLSU team. It will take place in the early stages of your placement and will include Trust specific fire safety training. This may be virtual via MS Teams.

All other mandatory training should be completed at your University prior to any clinical placement experience. This has been agreed between UHDB and your University.

You will be issued with the appropriate Trust photographic ID and swipe access once you have started your placement. Please ensure you bring photographic ID and your University ID on your first day.

Objectives and supervision

You will be given the opportunity to discuss and set your placement objectives with your Educator. Please be prepared for any supervision sessions and halfway/final reports with your relevant practice assessment documentation and objectives, either electronically or in paper format as appropriate.

Uniform

Changing facilities are available at all sites and it is Trust policy that you do not commute in your uniform. Further details regarding UHDB’s dress code and uniform policy can be found below.

Smoking

UHDB operates a Smoke Free Environment Policy. Smoking tobacco, including the use of electronic cigarettes is not permitted anywhere on Trust premises. This includes all buildings and grounds including car parks and Trust vehicles.
