Pulvertaft Hand Centre

hand surgery

The Pulvertaft Hand Centre offers a full range of treatments for patients with hand and wrist problems.

The unit consists of consultants from a mixture of orthopaedic and plastic surgery backgrounds. The medical team is supported by experienced nursing staff and an onsite hand therapy team to complete rehabilitation following surgery or injury.

We see patients with:

  • Arthroscopic surgery
  • Congenital hand conditions
  • Dupuytren’s disease
  • Nerve injuries and compression syndromes
  • Osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist
  • Post traumatic reconstructive surgery to the hand
  • Rheumatoid hand disease
  • Wrist instability and pain

Patients with osteoarthritis of the thumb joint can now benefit from a life-changing surgical procedure currently being trialled at UHDB. The minimally invasive procedure involves a synthetic cartilage implant, known as a Cartiva implant, being inserted at the base of the thumb.

Patients can go home on the same day following the operation, which helps reduce patients’ pain, improve hand function and increase strength of the affected thumb. Any patients wishing to be considered for the procedure should email cartivacmc@wright.com
