Vascular surgery
The vascular surgery department offers treatment for the full range of arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases.
This includes carotid artery surgery, aneurysms of the abdominal aorta, peripheral arterial disease, Ischaemic limbs, and varicose veins. The vascular surgeons work closely with colleagues in stroke, renal and diabetic services to provide surgical input to patients within these departments.
The vascular consultants provide a dedicated vascular on-call service in addition to the cover provided by the general surgery on-call services.
The eight resident vascular surgeons are supported by two vascular nurse specialists and dedicated radiology input. There is a 24/7 vascular interventional radiology service.
Outpatient clinics are primarily undertaken in the surgical outpatient department at Royal Derby Hospital, with further clinics being provided by our vascular consultants within our renal, diabetic and vascular laboratory areas as well as at our community facilities in Ripley, Long Eaton and Swadlincote.
Day case operating is performed in the general day case facility with all other operating being performed in the general theatre suite. A dedicated hybrid theatre suite will also be installed and in use by the end of 2022.
